Gandhinagar Special Steel Span Erection
Mumbai Metro Line 4 - CA10
Project Overview
This Special Steel Span erection represents one of the most complex engineering achievements in Mumbai Metro Line 4 development. The project involved the installation of a 62.70-meter long Semi-through W Type girder weighing 540 Metric Tonnes, crossing the existing Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road flyover at Gandhi Nagar Junction.
The project was completed successfully and safely over 5 weekend nights starting from April 26, 2025, and ending on May 25, 2025. The span crosses at the 2nd level over the existing JVLR flyover, while Mumbai Metro Line 6 crosses at the 3rd level, creating a complex multi-level transportation infrastructure.
Key technical specifications include a girder height of 4.20 meters, fabricated in multiple pieces at a factory in Pune and transported to Tagore Nagar on Eastern Express Highway for assembly. Two temporary trestles, each measuring 13.4m x 7.4m and weighing 61 Metric Tons, were erected for temporary support during installation.
